  • 1 Head of Cauliflower, cut into florets
  • 1 cup of rice flour
  • 1 tablespoon corn starch
  • pinch of salt (or as needed)
  • pinch of garlic powder
  • pinch of black pepper
  • 1/2 cup Water (or as needed for a semi thick paste)
  • Oil for frying the florets (about 2 cups)

For the sauce

  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 2-3 spring onion (green parts only), finely chopped
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 2-3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon low sodium soya sauce
  • 1 tsp rice vinegar (can also use balsamic vinegar / white vinegar)
  • 1 tsp corn starch
  • pinch of salt (or as needed)
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 tsp sugar

Method

  1. Take a bowl and add the rice flour, corn starch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder. Mix well. Add water as needed and mix to form a paste. Coat the cauliflower florets with the paste.
  2. Pour the oil in a deep pan and heat the oil. Once hot, drop the cauliflower florets and fry till lightly golden brown. Remove and drain on an absorbent towel.
  3. In a bowl, mix soya sauce, vinegar, salt, ketchup, water, sugar, corn starch and mix well.
  4. Meanwhile, take a wok and add the oil (1 tablespoon). Bring to heat and once hot, add in the ginger and minced garlic. Fry for a couple of seconds. Next, add in the sauce mix and heat till it starts to boil. Shut the flame and add in the fried cauliflower. Combine gently.
  5. Sprinkle sesame seeds and spring onions on top. Serve on a bed of rice or noodles.

Now that is one neat recipe ! Cauliflowers are delicious as it is but when you fry them up, these become crispy delicious treats. I like to add in some garlic powder in the coating and that makes a whole of difference when you prepare this dish. The sauce is a perfect mix of salty, sweet, sour and tangy which makes this dish yummilicous ! Give it a go
