WHY PLANT BASED MEALS?
A plant-based way of eating focuses on consuming plant-derived whole foods that are unrefined and minimally processed. This means pure, unadulterated ingredients that are in their original form. Here are some benefits of going plant based –
- Lower Blood Pressure
- Lower Cholesterol
- Better Blood Sugar Control
- Lower Rates of Cardiovascular diseases and Cancer
- Weight Loss
- Saves Money
- Helps the environment
This list is just scratching the surface of the benefits of going plant based and it sure looks like the way to go but it can be a hard transition for some. The good news is that one can start by following a more flexitarian approach and just focus on including more organic fruits and vegetables in their daily diet.
Frozen Meals
I am sure many of you will agree with me when I say cooking on weekdays can get really hectic. Though I try to plan and cook ahead, sometimes take out or frozen food is my best friend! Usually I just end up at the frozen section of grocery stores in search of some vegetarian/ plant based meals. With most of the frozen aisle filled with non-vegetarian meal options, it can often get frustrating to find a vegetarian entrée, let alone a plant based one. At such times, I just wish I get some delicious variety of food delivered right to my door step. I recently started looking for delivery options for vegetarian/plant based meals to sort out my daily food struggles and came across Veestro Meals.
Veestro is a plant based meal delivery system which works on a simple principle – pick your favorite meals from a variety of meal options they offer and get it delivered to your door step! This instantly caught my attention and when Meatless Monday offered few of its bloggers to try out Veestro meals, I grabbed the opportunity!
For my review, I got the a la carte meals and the package came with the following –
- Soba noodles with Peanut sauce
- Enchilada casserole with Red sauce
- Red curry
- Moroccan Melange
- Hand grenade juice
First Impression
My experience started with the meals being delivered in a neat box, temperature controlled and the meal boxes come with clear instructions for heating the contents. The package also contained a leaflet with the nutritional information about all the meals offered by Veestro which in my opinion is awesome! Not only can I see the nutrition of the meals I got delivered but can also plan ahead for the next order.
Veestro meals in temperature controlled packaging box
I was really pleased to see that all the meals I tried were wholesome, flavorful and pretty decent on the calorie count. Another brownie point goes to the fact that all of Veestro meals contain organic, simple (and relatable aka heard of) ingredients and no nasty preservatives which we see in most of the frozen meals.
Meals are packed in 100% compostable carton trays or pouches.
I followed the recommended heating instructions for the meals and tried them all! I was pretty happy to see how the dishes turned at the dinner table. Usually I get fooled into buying frozen meals by the cover pic of the package and often they turn out to be nothing like the pictures. Veestro meals delivered a 100% on that point! Have a look yourself!
Hand Grenade Juice + Enchilada Casserole + Red Curry with Tofu and Rice
Soba Noodles + Moroccan Melange
Picking my favorites
Red Curry with Tofu and Rice
I love Thai food and red curry is always one of the dishes I order. Having said that, it also makes me a snob and I am not easily impressed. When I make mine, I make the red curry paste from scratch and it takes me a long time to cook the dish. I was very eager to try the red curry by Veestro and it didn’t disappoint me one bit. The dish tasted very close to my preparation and my family agreed too. I would have loved if the meal came with a bit more curry but overall it was a satisfying meal.
Soba Noodles with Peanut Sauce
Simple ingredients and easy to re-heat, this dish came with delicate flavour profile and I assume would make for a perfect light summer lunch. I really liked how the noodles held its shape and did not get overcooked while reheating… but my most favorite part of this dish was the accompanied peanut sauce which was rich and felt like it was made fresh.
Overall, I would give full marks to Veestro and would love to sample more of its meals. The meals are satisfying and makes life so much simpler. With the vast variety they offer, you have no dearth of choices and can be sure that the food you are eating is fresh and free from preservatives!

Some tasty veggies and fruit salads amd sometimes some frozen rice bowls.
Yum! I love rice bowls too… usually end up going with asian sides. What about u Mara?
Spaghetti and salad is my favorite. Yes, I eat frozen meals often.
Have you come across a good brand for frozen spaghetti dishes? I always have an issue with frozen pasta dishes becoming too mushy if I forget to thaw them before heating them up in the microwave.
I try not to make too many meals from frozen foods, but sometimes the allure of something quick and tasty is just too great! I think we’re actually going to have frozen veggie burgers tonight, but I’m making homemade buns – that’s something, right? Usually I’m good and make a lot of weeknight “bowls” – a grain, protein (tofu, tempeh, etc), veggies, and a sauce.
I hear you Moll! I do the same… usually add a side fresh salad or fresh dinner rolls 🙂 Makes me feel like I cooked the meal at home 😛
I usually do a bean dish with veggies and rice. I do use frozen meals when I am short on time
That sounds like a complete meal ! Awesome
My go to weekday dinner meals currently are black bean chili and roasted butter nut squash soup. Love them! I eat frozen meals a few times a week and I only try to buy healthier ones with lower sodium and high fiber. Thanks for the chance! 🙂
Black bean chili and squash soup sounds yum!! and so healthy too! I have the same parameters when I am shopping for frozen foods.. being a vegetarian makes it tougher though
My go-to is a stir fry. Yes, I eat frozen meals.
Pizza Friday nights, chicken fingers and fries for the kids one night a week, quesadillas. We need some help in the food department at our house.
We eat frozen meals 1 to 2 days a week. We mostly eat a lot of pasta dishes
I use frozen meals a lot for quick meals, we don’t have a favorite really.
